Dear Friends!                                                                                                                         February 17, 2006

Greetings from the wonderful world of Wilmington North Carolina, God’s second promise land (I’m certain of it, or at least where he goes on vacation).  And as if being blessed enough to live and go to college here hasn’t been enough, I’ve been called to head to the other America (South, just incase that stumped ya) this summer to Bolivia for mission work through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.  Now I know how excited you are reading this letter already, but let’s take it easy and allow me to catch you up on what’s been going on my life recently and how God has been working.

I’m in the middle of my second year here at The University of North Carolina at Wilmington and loving every minute of it.  Throughout my time here God has taking me a on a roller coaster ride of trials and joys teaching me every bit along the way.  During my freshman year I was presented with many opportunities to serve through many campus ministries.  However after a lot of prayer and searching, I fell in love with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, an inter-denominational campus ministry which is student led.  I’ve been fortunate enough to become my Chapters MC and assistant large group coordinator.  It’s a blast and my favorite way to serve.  I hope to begin to disciple others this semester and lead a small group next fall.  Having fun reading this letter yet?  Totally! But the best is yet to come!

Through InterVarsity’s training program STIM (Student Training In Missions), I’m headed to Bolivia this summer.  I came to this decision after a lot of prayer, conviction, eagerness to serve and a surprising recommendation from my schools career service department.  I had actually gone to career services in search of internships.  But after mentioning the idea of mission work, the advisor leaned in favor of it.  That was enough for me.  Amazing how God opens doors (or at least points out the obvious direction to the door for us).

Now I know what you’re thinking.  “John I totally want to get involved!”  Well Super.  And just incase one way to help isn’t enough for ya, or you’re unable to help in one way, I have got two, yes two ways you can experience this adventure with me.  First and foremost I would ask you to pray for me this summer, that I’ll grow, gain wisdom, be safe, and overall achieve God’s will while in the field.  Feeling generous in the heart department?  Sweet, because I lost my coupon that was good for one free mission trip to Bolivia and I don’t know if I’ll find it again.  The second way you can be involved is through financial support.  I need to raise $3850 by May 1, 2006.  This amount must be raised through gifts from family, friends, and churches.  Please consider prayerfully if God would have you join me in furthering his Kingdom around the world.  Enclosed along with this fun-filled letter, is a response card that will allow you to let me know what decision you come to, go ahead and send this to me.  Common monetary gifts are $25, $50, $100 or any amount you feel the led to give.  Make checks out to IVCF, and send gifts in the provided business envelope to InterVarsity.  All gifts are tax deductible.  If you have any questions, my contact information is below; I would LOVE to hear from you!

Thanks so much for taking time to read and to be a part of this adventure the Lord has set before me.

John Felts                                                                                                            Sincerely,

I've always had a bit of an obsession with the moon.  To see such light in Darkness, its just grabs me.  It started when i was in 9th grade (dont worry im going somewhere with this), i had just ended a really crappy date with this girl, not crappy becuz of either one of us, but because the event we went to sucked, anyway.  As we were being dropped off at her house, she walked up the stairs to her house, i followed as my friends Dad called my name and gave me a wink, as to say "go get em" or somehtin i guess.  So as i started at the bottom of the stairs up to her house, imidiately when i looked up, i remember it bein the most beautiful sight ever.  She was standing on the balcony part the stairs, lookin at the biggest and brightest moon i had ever seen.  The way it lit her face, especially the whites of her eyes and lips and skin, it shone beautifully as if it were made just for this moment.  As i finally made it to the top of that never ending trip up the stairs, we stared at eachother with the same thought "how stupid of a night, but at least u were there to make it fun".  Not a word was said, and you could hear the silence.  This was my moment, and i went in for our first and probably best kiss i ever had with this person.  Ah to be 15 again, i remember i thought my heart was moving so fast i was going to explode. That night i fell inlove with my favorite creation, The moon (ok maybe the moon comes second the female creation, regardless, im talkin non living things here

Isnt it amazing?  To look up and see the same thing every night and still be amazed.  These are things i think only God can accomplish, to take somethin like the moon or Sunset, things that happen everyday, and make them just beautiful and amazing each time.  Its like the Wonka gobstopper, it never runs outta flavor.  I mean there are man made paintings, and photographs, movies, and my favorite, music, but it gets old, and u get sick of it.  I dont think i could ever get sick Gods glory in his creation (now im deff talkin about the woman) A sunset will always be amazing to look at, just like the moon.  Its so simple and complicated at the same time.  I see God in the same way as being eternally glorifying.

Its Fascinating to me.  At night i look up at the moon and its illumation.   I think to myself "unreal".  This is as amazing and unbelievable as it gets, yet im staring at it, right in the face.  With all these charactersitics, one also catches my attention, "undeniable".  If i ever doubt to the Thomas point of the "seeing is believing" philosophy, I just look at the creation and design around me.  A creation that if described to me, instead of seen by my own eyes, could only additionally described as "impossible".  But its there

Last Sunday in Church, i was sitting with mom as Dad was preaching.  Dad mentioned the second coming of Christ and us joining him in the clouds.  It was amazing, but i thought about it much like i think about the moon during the day, yes its a nice thougt, but its hard to concieve.  Then my Mom looked at me with a large hope in her eyes and whispered "Wont that be wonderful, wont that be a wonderful day?"  At that point i put myself above her, looking at her witha smile, but in my mind viewing her as some dillusional cultic hopeful fanatic.  I couldnt believe i was thinkin like this.  Am i putting God in a box?  Do i not believe this myself?  Of course i do.  Why was i seein mom as weak at this point?  As if didnt believe this would happen (Christs comin, the clouds, yada yada yada).  I then saw how selfish, arrogant, and wrong i was in this moment.  I realized that Mom was so far ahead of me in so many ways.  Her faith in that moment soars above my doubtful tendancy, and weakness.  This was somethin to shoot for.  I to believe in this coming moment, but not in the same hopeful way my mom does.  I see this moment in the future now as i see and think about the moon during the day.  It is beautiful, it is divine, and it is undeniable
